Gavin Weld White

The name means, approximately, "Wild Warrior of Light" or "Wild White Knight", or more literally "Wild White Hawk". Anagrams include "Wild Heaven Twig" and "Wild White Vegan". (The latter is no longer an appropriate appellation, as he has stopped being vegan after four and a half years.)

Also known affectionately as the Wanderer, Gavin makes his home in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Reed College in 2002 with a degree in Mathematics.

Gavin's undergraduate thesis, titled "Secure and Verifiable Election Systems", describes a cryptographic protocol for an instant runoff Borda Count election system in which anyone can prove that the tally is valid (that the votes counted were exactly the votes cast), but no voter can prove how he or she voted.

Gavin is a grassroots organizer and organizational consultant with a penchant for partisan politican participation.

Gavin is vice president and co-founder of National Civitas, a civic education non-profit dedicated to developing currricula and delivering trainings in a non-partisan context of formal nonviolence (satyagraha).

Motivated by his love for a woman named Andrea, Gavin claims to be the luckiest man in the universe. He states that he has more time, more energy, and more fun than before he met her, and that being with her is both fun and easy in ways he never imagined possible.
